What is Giclée?

The word Giclée is a French term, meaning "to squirt". Not especially poetic in itself, it is the common name in the Art world for very high quality, colour inkjet printing on to specially coated fine art papers and canvasses.

Giclée prints are widely regarded as the highest quality reproduction currently available. This means superb colour matching, delicate tones and colour graduations are faithfully reproduced. The enhanced colour range means even the most vibrant of pigments can be replicated with great accuracy.

The Printer produces ultra-fine random droplets of ink at resolutions of up to 1440 x 1440 dpi. Even viewed under a magnifying glass, there is no discernible dot or screen visible - in fact, in side-by-side tests, several artists have failed to distinguish between their own original and a Giclée.

Using mould-made fine art papers or canvas up to 54" (1371mm) wide, the printer gives us the ability to print anything from a postcard to a Picasso.

We use the Hahnemuhle range of mould-made papers, which have the look, feel and general texture of the original artist's medium. The process also produces wonderful canvasses which once stretched, varnished and framed are a very faithful reproduction and are hard to distinguish from an original oil painting.
