Archibald Dunbar McIntosh

Archibald Dunbar McIntosh was born in 1936. He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1953 to 1957. During his National Service he spent sixteen months in Cyprus. On his return he taught painting and in 1968 became President of Glasgow School of Art.

Archie's paintings reflect his love of the surrounding Scottish isles. Magical silent lochs with animated shapes and forms of fishing boats spewing their tackle of nets and baskets onto slippery rocks, shimmering against mystical waters with distant isles sitting haughtily upright. A shooting star or Northern Light illuminates the black threatening sky and old rickety cottages cram around the harbourside. These magical visions echo the surroundings of these silent and curious isles.
